# Storage Layout Change for Linux Computing Platform

[Status](/.md) › [Events](/events.md) › Storage Layout Change for Linux Computing Platform

**Window:** Apr 9, 6:30 PM → Apr 9, 10:00 PM · 4 hours

## Details

Status: `CONFIRMED`; Reference: `MAINTENANCE-20250409`; Scope: `VM-LINUX-CP.AD.HVAICLAB.INTERNAL`

**ATTN**: Downtime expected.

A brief maintenance will be performed on **VM-LINUX-CP** to update the storage layout. During this period, the VM will be offline.
In light of the recent incident, this update is intended to improve the performance and reliability of the storage system.

Important things to note:
- 6TB of total storage will be allocated across user-writable directories: `/var`, `/tmp`, and `/home`.
- Each user will have a soft quota of **512GB** for these directories combined.
- Exceeding this quota by 50% will result in a "Disk quota exceeded" error on write attempts. To resume write access, a user must reduce their usage by, for example, deleting unused files.
- To check your quota usage, run `quota -s`.
- More storage may be added later, depending on usage.
